My work is born from a constant admiration of nature - both the real and imagined, including imagery from children’s books, myths and fairy tales. The feelings provoked by experiences in nature, by observing her resilience/vulnerability, deficiencies/abundance and the array of shapes, colors and textures are unmatched. Depth, repetition, color and texture are the elements I am drawn to when making. I rely heavily on time and patience. Both coloring clay as well as my approach to texture and density forces me to slow down and be present with my actions. This in turn aligns my studio practice to the slow and methodical rhythms and cycles of nature.
